On Vox: Scion: Hero -- Prologue

This is a story of our table-top RPG game in Scion in my character's POV. Scion was published by White Wolf Inc. and based on American Gods by Neil Gaiman. My character's name is Noir Valentine, an african-american mortal whose job is to assassinate people for living. She's 20 years old, lives in New Orleans and a Scion of Kalfu.

Prologue
New Orleans, Present Day

I’ve always been alone. Growing up in an orphanage makes you trust no one other than yourself. The teachers had praised my works and yet I didn’t let my intellectual talents grow. All through my high school life, I jumped from one trouble to another, joining in gangs and involve myself into their fights. I started holding a gun since I was 15, mastered removing and cleaning its parts at 16.

At 18, after my graduation, I ran away from the orphanage and drown myself in the on goings of the black market. There, I learned how to aim and shoot properly. Before long I was one of the best assassins that can be hired for a certain price.

I thought I know everything already in the realm of the living and the dead. It’s a dog-eat-dog world I’m living and I should be constantly moving from one place to another to prevent being killed by the same people who paid for my services. For two years, I’ve been living this kind of life until a mysterious job was sent to me.

The job was sent through an electronic mail, giving me the time and day of the hit. A picture of a man and the electronic receipt of transferred funds, including my airfare to the next state, are enclosed as well. This was the first time the client had paid me in full before I even finished the task. There was only one condition after killing the man, cut off his ear and deliver it to the client, the address will be given to me after I successfully killed the target.

With no questions asked, I replied with an approval and set off to the place where the job will be located. I arrived there 5 hours earlier than the specified time. I walked to the nearest abandoned building to stake my prey. I reached the rooftop via the stairs and positioned myself as I lay in wait.

Hours passed by and a lone car drove by and stopped right in front of the building. A man wearing a black suit with dark glasses and hat came out from the passenger side, and faced the empty lot across the building. The vacant lot barred with a wooden fence not higher than the man’s thighs and a “No Trespassing” sign was painted on it to warn intruders not to enter.

With the sniper scope of my gun, I got a close look at the man as he cross over the wooden fence, and identifying him as my target. His bronze skin covered his sweat as he assessed the place, maybe his 6^th sense is working, and telling him something is off. I surveyed and noted that there is no other person with him. I went back to my target, and aimed for the head.

I hold my breath as my finger tingles at the sensation of the trigger.

BANG!

A single bullet shot through the air and was the downfall of another man across the street. Packing my things, I immediately ran from the rooftop towards the dead body. No one is still in sight, but that does not mean that no one will pass by. As I cross the street, I grabbed the dagger lying in wait for my use for it inside my bag. Passing the car, I looked inside it, making sure that there is no one is hiding inside.

Walking towards the fence, I raised my left leg to get across the only barrier from me and my target. As soon as my foot landed on the ground, the surroundings changed into an underwater cavern.

In instinct, I held my breath, thinking that I might be drowning and my end has come. But as I let air enter my lungs again and again, I marveled at how I can breath underwater.

Examining the predicament I am in, I noticed that aside from the water and the fishes swimming around, the wooden fence disappeared as well replaced by the cavern wall surrounding the vicinity. The building where I shot my target has also disappeared.

The target!

I need to get his ear as the condition of the mission. I looked around but I fail to see the body of the man I killed a while ago. All in its place is a tall pillar with roughly 5 meters wide. Looking up, I didn’t see the ending of it and I don’t think there is any ending. Cautiously, I walked towards the structure; with my hand is still grasping the dagger in my bag ready for anything.

“You don’t need that, yet…” someone said, his voice sounded old and coming behind the pillar. I walked around it and saw a man, old enough to be my great grandfather, with a top hat and a cane to help him to move around. He was leaning at the structure, grinning like a cheshire cat and I noticed he was wearing dark glasses marked with symbols. His clothing consists of a jacket with matching pants that screamed fashionable several years ago.

“Where is the man?” I whispered.

“The man?” he asked without removing his grin. My eyes narrowed and searched frantically where he could’ve hidden my target. “You see him before you…”

My eyes widen in surprise as I look at him from head to foot. I remembered the targets skin, clothes and add to that the youthfulness that this old man is clearly without.

“Certainly you jest. You’re too old…” and that earned me a strike to the right shoulder with his cane. I didn’t even see him move away from the pillar, let alone striking me with his cane.

“What did you say?” an eyebrow was raised at this query.

“If you’re my target, I need your ear as proof.” With that, I grabbed the dagger that has been resting in my bag; its sharpen edge sparkle in the dimly lit cavern. Instead of trying to get away, the old man merely laughed at what I was about to do.

”You fool; you think you can defeat me? Hahaha”

“We’ll see about that!” I lunged towards him, intending to push him against the pillar and cut of his ear. That might teach him never to piss off an assassin. But as I reach the pillar, I pushed nothing but air and another strike delivered to the left shoulder, much harder than the first one. “I need the ear for the payment!” I growled.

“You don’t have to worry about it, you’ve been paid already.” He said, adjusting his glasses on the bridge of his nose.

“Just who are you?” I snarled, facing the old man, my target and my trophy.

“Is that how you greet your father? Very well, introductions should be made. I am Kalfu, the god of the malevolent spirits of the night.”

“What?” I exclaimed. I was an orphan, I was always alone and now someone or something is claiming to be my father. Kalfu was it? “Stop joking old man, I do not have a father, my parents died somewhere and left me alone to fend for myself.” I didn’t care if the heard the self-pity in my voice but it was the truth. I was utterly alone in the orphanage and after everything that has happened in my life, a person just strolls by and now telling me that he is my father.

“I am not old, not in a couple more centuries!” he said and delivered another strike, this time to my head. “I am here because I need of your… abilities. As you know now, you are a daughter of a god of Loa, a Scion. You have a part of my power, and because of this I need you to do things for me in this world. The Titans have escaped and there is but little time for you to be prepared and face their challenges. The war has already begun in our world and it would spread towards yours if you can’t do anything about it.”

“I am an assassin, not a savior.”

“You obviously don’t know the power that you have. Give me your gun.” He ordered. Without thought, I handed him the case. He whispered an incantation and the case glowed a bluish light which startled me. He handed me the case once again and smiled.

“That will bring your Chaos to you if you ever need it. And this,” he grabbed something from the insides of his jacket, another pair of glasses, with only one lens intact. On the lens, several markings are engraved. “…will ensure that the Darkness and the Moon is close by.”

Kalfu walked slowly towards the pillar, passing me the unique glasses. He then leaned against the cemented structure as if is strength is leaving him. Shuffling something from the neckline of his shirt, he produced a necklace made of string with a bone of chicken feet as the pendant. My eyebrows shot up as he motioned me to take it.

“This is the last relic that I’ll be giving of you. Shake it and a creature will be called and help you in your journey.”

I didn’t believe him so as soon as I grabbed the necklace, I shook the chicken feet. In my peripheral vision, I saw something red like blood. I look to my right and saw a bull, taller than any human being, with blood shot eyes and blood soaked horns that look very deadly to me. I instantly grabbed my dagger and prepare to kill it if necessary.

“I would like you to meet the Taureau-Trois-Graines, or commonly known as the bull with three testicles, he he he.” He said, laughing as if he just said an awesome joke. The bull just stared back at me as if made of stone, its eyes glowed like death waiting to kill.

“How do I un-summon it?”

“Rub its three testicles… It will return to where it’s kept.” Kalfu said and pointed at the back part of the bull.

“WHAT?!” His face doesn’t offer me any other choice and I can’t very well take the bull with me. With a resigned face, I walked behind the bull and rubbed his private parts, hoping that it would not kick me in the face for it.

“MOOooo” the bull’s response was and laughter was heard from the pillar. I glared at the old man as he was laughing as if there’s no tomorrow. “That’s… I didn’t… know that… you… would… actually do it… hahahaha…” Kalfu said in between his hysterical laughter.

I removed my hand from the bull’s private parts and stomped towards him, planning shake him until he tells me what I need to do. A hand stopped me from going to him and his face was suddenly devoid of laughter.

“Just shake the chicken bone again and he will leave.”

Following his direction, I shook the rattle-like pendant and watch the bull’s solid form disintegrate into thin air, as if no living creature was standing there in the first place.

“Go to San Francisco, they need you there.” Kalfu whispered.

“And how do you propose I get there?” I asked, a single eyebrow rose, challenging his power to do me a favor. The last thing I remember about him was his grin, and with a flick of his hand, everything blurred.

The World Ends With You

At first glance, the name of Square Enix captures your eye and will probably say that it might be another run-of-the-mill RPG game like Final Fantasy XXX, but much to my surprise, the game is nowhere near it. When Square Enix and Jupiter, the group that created Kingdom Hearts for PS2 decided to create another game, they had created something that is an out-of-the-box experience that only the Nintendo DS console can pull off.

The World Ends With You may be one of the best games that came out this year, but it still has the elements of the memorable RPG out there. The loner protagonist, the bubbly love interest, another boy with a bad-ass image then add another mysterious person and a surprising ending. But what stands out from this game is the awesome gameplay that challenges your eye coordination and fashion sense.

The game starts with Neku Sakuraba, the protagonist who apparently hates everyone and prefers to be alone. He wakes up in a different Shibuya and monsters called Noise come out from nowhere to kill him. There he meets Shiki Misaki, a wannabe fashion designer and always trying Neku to open up to her. There he learned of all the player's objective in winning the Repears' game: to get a 2nd chance in life, failure is to be erased. The game is composed of 3 chapters: "Shiki Chapter", "Joshua Chapter" and "Beat Chapter". Each player in the Reapers' Game should have a partner or else they will perish.

The story might be shallow at the start as Neku is too introverted that might hinder the growth between him and his partner, but as the game progresses, you will see changes in him that you will appreciate everything that has happened.

handed people) and the touch screen of the bottom; as these actions control both Neku and his active partner. A combo puck is being passed back and forth the 2 screens as Neku and his active partner juggle to achieve higher combo for a deadly finish, and more experience.

The battle system might be confusing at first as too much information might be given but nothing makes sense, but the game encourages players to take it one step at a time, until you're certain that you can take on the tougher and weird Noise. But one thing is for sure, this game is designed for hardcore players who will be able to follow through the gameplay quickly.

Battles consist of player-chosen encounters. The player may scan the area for fights at any time. While battling, Neku and his partner's HP is shared. Once both HP is depleted, the game is over and players have the option to try the battle again or flee.

Pins are also scattered throughout Shibuya and can be bought in shops. These can further enhance Neku's abilities and can be exchanged for Yen. Abilities range from healing a certain amount of depleted HP to bubbles that bounces from enemies and the wall or shouting at the microphone to release sound waves that can disorient enemies. Some of the pins can evolve (yes, like Pokemon -- gotta catch them all) and levels up after each fight. Food and Clothing are also available in the stores to add stats and synchronization between partners.

Fashion also plays a gigantic role in The World Ends With You, with each district in the game having preferred brands. Preferred brands in pins and clothing can double the stats and abilities of the characters, but if you do not pay attention to these little details, it might be your end as you know it.

Phone Menu

In addition, a level slider is added in the menu that lets you boost the drop rate of pins after battling the Noise. The only sacrifice is that your HP will decrease as you battle but the pins are easily acquired after can be sold or are needed for a certain quest. Difficulty and the controls of your partner can also be changed to suit your game style.

Visually the game is extraordinary, making use of moving manga panels and dual-screen cinematic presentation. The only let down is that characters look like characters for Kingdom Hearts -- minus Disney of course. But still, the shifting of character portraits recreates the manga feel.

Sounds are also not in the normal context here, as it includes a wide variety of music with the influence of Hip Hop and Electronica genre. Additional music can be bought in the stores so the music is never the same when battling and moving around.

A mini-game called Tin Slammer is incorporated in the diverse world of The World Ends With You. You can challenge other players for the friendly battle of Pins. Another multiplayer asset is the Mingle Mode wherein you can setup a shop for other players to buy your merchandise and can see how far is the player already in the game. Although the multiplayer options are not the strong side for this, it's a welcomed addition to the game.

The World Ends With You boasts amazing creativity and challenges the preconception on what a RPG should be. The amazing factor of this game is the level of customization that a player can do. From battling the Noise to what to eat and wear for the day can be changed with a single flick in the touch screen. Not only Sqaure Enix and Jupiter created one of the best games for DS but one of the best RPG to date. It can stand at par with Legend of Zelda and Final Fantasy series.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles - Ring of Fates

Phew. What a long name for a good game that can entice your creative mind juices with puzzles and a different type of gameplay. FFCC - Ring of Fates is the prequel to the Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles that was created by Square-Enix for the gamecube platform which was released 5 years ago.

Immediately, the game have different modes to choose from; from the story to the multiplayer gameplays that enables you to play with 3 other players and join forces to finish quests that was given to you by the King of Rebena Te Ra; to the story mode where you can now experience first hand what really happened with the protagonists. FFCC - Ring of Fates also utilized the Nintendo DS' capability of Wi-Fi connection as players can trade customized Moogles.

The story itself was touching, as a player discovers the sibling-love between the fraternal twins, Yuri and Chelinka and their struggles as they try and put the world at peace. Aided by their friends Gnash, Meeth and Alhanalem, they fight the Lunites that threatens to destroy / conquer the world.

There are 4 races existing in the FFCC - Ring of Fates world: the peaceful Clavat, the magic-wielding Yukes, the magicite creating Lilties and the aggressive Selkie. Each of the four races has special abilities that will aid the players in dungeons and proceed with the story. All races have the ability to cast spells by collecting Magicites (orbs of mana) while battling monsters and opening chests.

The 3D rendering of the gameplay and movies are awesome, just like what Square-Enix did with Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings. The music is also good, very entertaining and portraying the emotion of the story as the protagonist progress.

Unfortunately, switching of camera angle was not supported, thus it is sometimes a pain whenever Yuri and the gang are fighting a monster. Also, switching from one character to another is a tedious task especially when you are pressed for time and fighting the current boss of the dungeon. And the AI system is not that effective in battles -- most of the time they are just standing on the side watching that character that the player is controlling fighting the monster. Although they sometimes serve as great decoys whenever a monster appears out of nowhere.

The multiplayer system might be a great addition to the game but with every player connecting to complete quests, lag issues were unraveled. But if players just disregard the lag, it would be a lot of fun completing and leveling up like playing a MMORPG.

Overall, even if the game was not the best game Square-Enix created, this is still one of the good games that was released in 2008. The graphics are still the best CG in all the games that was created for the DS and the art of story telling is still essential as the game progresses.

As a fan Gyakutan Saiban or also known as the Phoenix Wright trilogy, I was intrigued with the new game that was released which is Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney. Not only Phoenix Wright has been replaced as the protagonist, but most of the staff has disappeared as well. The only people who were included in the new game was of course Phoenix Wright, Ema Skye and the wonderful judge, who is still weird ever.

But I digress.

The game as also the same gameplay as the previous releases, but with additional powers / talents. With the help of his bracelet, Apollo Justice can sense the habits of the suspects and witnesses when they lie or nervous about a part of their testimonies -- this is called the Perceive System. Also, with the help of Trucy (adoptive daughter of Phoenix), she can perform magic tricks to help Apollo perform his job (not that he needed any help).

Other than that, players can also enjoy more time investigating using scientific methods like finger printing. This was a good addition to the game that it's previous releases lack. The graphics are improved compared to the previous releases, as some are in d format for good visualization. A simulation of the crime scene is also included for good visualization and finding more clues.

The cases that were presented in the game were unique which ranges from panty-snatching thief to a stolen noodle stand of a harmonica playing ex-surgeon. Thinking out of the box is still a key trait to use when playing this game, and with a little comprehension to the side, to understand what was the case all about.

While Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney might be the shortest game in the Gyakutan Saiban releases, it offers the same entertainment and mind boggling cases as it's predecessors. It also boasts hilarious lines that would make any player laugh while taking a testimony of a suspect. Overall, it's a great addition to the Gyakuten Saiban series.

Professor Layton and the Curious Village

At first, I was a bit skeptical about playing the game and I was not that impressed with the graphics that I saw printed on the box. But I was curious about what the game can offer, considering it is the first part of the trilogy.

Professor Layton and the Curious Village is the first part of three that will be developed by Level-5 which is inspired by the games of Akira Tago's Mental Gymnastics. Apprently, Akiro Hino was a fan of the game and decided to make something like it for Level-5.

The game first talk about a Golden Apple that a late baron stated on his will. Whosoever solves the puzzle of the Golden Apple will have all his inheritance. Professor Layton and his assistant, Luke decided to solve and find the Golden Apple.

The game then brings the protagonists to the puzzle-loving town of the Baron and meet up with the Baron's wife, Lady Dahlia. After a murder or two and several kidnappings, it brings the Professor closer in solving the mystery.

Puzzles are the main idea of the game. Everywhere you go and everyone you decided to talk to in the game will either require you have a number of puzzle before they can give you information or solve a puzzle for them. Clues are from conversations and things you find on the floor.

Puzzle difficulty are determined by the picarat value. Penalties are awarded to wrong answers which subtracts the value of the picarats. Hint coins are also available to "buy" hints for the puzzle you need to solve. Although you have to search every nook and cranny of the village to obtain them. One of the villagers even hinted that there only limited number of hint coins, so it's best to reserve them for the tougher puzzles.

Graphic-wise, the graphics are superb, not as good as FF series, but good nonetheless. It is like watching an anime and playing a game, all at the same time. This also reminds me of the previous games of Touch Detective, but a little less running from one place to the other.

The music isn't bad either, although the music being used while solving a puzzle is a little serene, and might make you drowsy, but it's still a good sound. Another great feature is that you can connect to the WFC and download new puzzles if you have finished all the 100+ puzzles included in the game.

Overall, this is a very good game that will test your puzzle solving skills, verbal comprehension and even mathematical ability to solve puzzles that require computations. For those who love puzzles might as well acquire this game, you will not regret it.

On Vox: Still the same Mits

So last month, we had the pleasure to see Mits again after so long. Kila got to the restaurant first and chatted with him for awhile. When I got to the restaurant, I was so happy to see him again.

Although I was a bit surprised that he shaved his head, even if Mechiavillian Mecha Monster posted Mits' new 'do' in his livejournal before. But hair aside, he's still as funny as ever as he told us his stories of Taiwan, and his everyday adventures. He even invited us to go to his apartment when we go there -- hopefully this April to watch L'arc-en-ciel concert (crosses fingers).

As we were talking about anything under the sun, some people managed to show up. Mechiavillian Mecha Monster

showed up then Arnold; then there's Hazel. Then finally Robsano and Tash joined in as we were eating our dinner. We were trying to convince Mark-hori to go but knowing him, we might wait until wee hours of the morning before we get to see him.

After dinner, we then decided to go to Coffee Bean to have our coffee, that's when Sonia and Toby graced us with their presence. When Coffee Bean closed up, we moved to Gloria Jeans to continue our chismis, that's when battlechaser showed up. Mits was seated on the very corner of the table so as not to be kissed by Kuya Paul. We were joking about it ever since we ate dinner.

When midnight came, it's time to say our goodbye's since most of us have work the next day. As tradition, we had a group picture for us to remember the time when Mits came back even just for a little while:

On Vox: Lovely Day: The shoot

We were supposed to have our shooting last Saturday (11/10/2007) but it was postponed because the writer was sick. It was supposed to be an overnight thing, but we managed to finish all the things they have shoot last Sunday (11/11/2007).

So it all started when I woke up at 4 am in the morning to prepare my Mirror Queen costume and go to the GMA station. Grabbing the first cab I see, I asked the driver to drop me off at the Timog entrance. After waiting for 5 mins, Arlene let me enter the premises and gave me the script.

While reading the script, Jamir, Ryan, another Ryan and Lyron got to the venue as well. We were laughing our heads off at the script. Whoever the scriptwriter was, it was damn funny.

Anyways, we rode in a van, going to Laguna, the venue of the shooting. I slept half of the way, but most of the time, we were laughing and talking about cosplay.

We arrived at the location about 8:30 am, and we ate breakfast.Then we explored the resort. Too bad we did not bring any swim wear to try the pool. Then we changed into our costumes and got ready for a long day of shooting. I had the longest scenes but darn, it was so fun trying to act the "kontrabida" in the episode. Another shoot in another location would be the last stop of all my spiels x.x

After merienda and the shoot (which ended at approx 5:30 pm) we watch Love, Ryan, Jacob and other kids playing basketball in the court, while Gab and his brother swam in the swimming pool. I took several photos of the game, but I'm still too lazy to upload them.

We were officially going home at 7:30 pm and arrived in Manila at 9 pm. I was exhausted and didn't have the energy to change clothes. I took a SL in the office the next day because my body is aching from exhaustion -- but it was definitely worth it.

BTW, the episode will be aired on Dec 15 (great -- same date as the FC Xmas Party T-T), 8 or 9 am.

On Vox: A Basketball MMORPG

For the past few weeks/months, I've been hooked to this game called CyberDunk, an MMORPG -- much like the game of Fantasy Basketball for NBA fans. I'm not much of an NBA fan, but I do play basketball when I was in HS and College. So when a friend of mine told me about the game, I was quite skeptical because I prefer to play the game rather than play a "fantasy" game.

But, well, I decided to try and create a character. Meet Noir Valentine, very energetic Center. So, after lots of training and equipment buying, my character is now in top 15 of the division's MVP for the season and part of the top 10 of both Most Blocks and Most Offensive Rebounds.

On Vox: Talkin' To Myself: A Review

Talkin' 2 Myself CD

From the Empress of Pop comes her 42nd single Talkin' 2 Myself, the follow up single after Glitter/Fated, that will be released on September 19.

The latest album contains Talkin' 2 Myself and Decision, both of which are rock ballad. It also contains the orchestra version of the previous song Fated and instrumentals of the new 2 songs.

Talkin' 2 Myself was already talked about as the promotional video (PV) was released, although some fans felt that the PV did not do the music any justice. The said rock ballad opens with a piano then a burst of heavy guitar rifts and drums invade the senses. It's a powerful song but her voice complimented it perfectly.

Her lyrics seems to be in the same tune as the song, as powerful and well written lyrics indicate how a person talks about oneself. She talks about the follies, indecision and imperfection of a persons mind, that it questions and reflects on what was done and what was neglected.

Talkin' 2 Myself DVD

While Talkin' 2 Myself is already adored by fans, Decision has yet to capture their hearts. Another rock ballad with almost the same style as Talkin 2 Myself, but Ayu's voice for this song is softer but not so much as to be overpowered by great guitar rifts and piano, then builds into a powerful verse packed with emotion.

The lyrics of Decision is yet to be translated but the emotion that is expressed by the song and the singing style reflects a person longing and regretting something.

Included in the single is the orchestra version of Fated, from the previous single glitter/fated. The version is so sad -- much like the PV for this single. This is really an emotionally moving song.

Overall, the album is great, both of the new songs represent a new side of Ayu but still retain the Ayu that all the fans love and adore. They might be heavy to some fans, but they still adore it nevertheless.

On Vox: A Crazy Weekend

Last Saturday, our group has to split up since there are 2 events happening at the same time. Since Mechiavillian Mecha Monster and Kila are judges in the other event, they were obligated to go to the UP event. I was a judge on the other event and we have a booth so I went to the 1Espanade event. After which, we decided to hangout in Fully

Booked in Bonifacio High Street in The Fort. 5 floors (including the basement) of books is really something as we explored the shelves.

We ate in Heaven and Eggs and went back again to the bookstore to scout some more books. Then decided to hang out outside since the store is already closing. Then we saw a sign and asked Pong to demonstrate something for us...

He was game and we took a couple of pictures of it on how NOT to park on the road XD

After that battlechaser was taking a pictures of Kila and asking her to do some poses. Unfortunately, the poses are somewhat ... difficult to do, that we all end up laughing as Kila tried to do them. Here's an example:

So after that, she didn't want to be the model for the night. So while we are trying to stop laughing, she and Mechiavillian Mecha Monster remembered a Muppets scene which went like this:

Luminous Arc

I am finally about to finish the game and here I am giving an in depth review of the game called Luminous Arc. This review will contain spoilers, so if you plan to play the game, it's best not to continue reading this.

Luminous is what you call a "copycat" of Final Fantasy Tactics but it has it's own charm. But gameplay-wise, it's like you're playing Tactics with bearing of religion misgivings and lies.

The game is about the Garden Children, orphaned kids taken in and trained by the Church to hunt the evil witches who tried to destroy the world a millennium ago. Eventually, the children realized that the witches are not the ones who wanted to destroy the world but God, when awaken will consume all.

Alph, the protagonist of the story, comes to know Lucia, the Dawn Witch -- and eventually finds out that he was Lucia's Rym. The Rym of a witch is her dragon protector, and it was known that Alph and his brother Theo are dragons before.

There are seven witches in the game, which you will be able to interact and be friends with:

Lucia, the Dawn Witch
Vanessa, the Witch of Immolation
Vivi, the Sky Witch
Mavi, the Nature Witch
Claire, the Thunder Witch and the Leader of the Witches
Mel, the Water Witch
Cecille, the Twilight Witch -- also the priestess who served the Church before she remembered her past as a witch

The graphics is surprisingly good, though the opening credit really reminded me of the Final Fantasy franchise; where it is not shown who is the real enemy until you finish the game -- but what game does not give that feel?

Some dialogues have voice-overs, which were very annoying (especially the freaking angel GRRR) and the comedic scenes are not that funny. The game does not also utilize the touch screen, and usually, I find it hard to use the stylus to pinpoint the exact loaction to place my character, since the camera can not be rotated as well. Sadly, I have not tried the multiplayer game, but it is said that it is what the game really excels in.

Gameplay might be the same with Tactics but other than the Attack, Skill and Magic combo, Flash Drive and Synergy is also present to give players options on how to kill the enemy. While Flash Drive relies with how much you have garnered in your Flash Meter, Synergy has the requirements of filling up both of their Flash Meters and be close with each other.

Intermissions is also present to let you talk to a character of your choice after the battle. This will either affect the stats of that character or give you a useful item, provided you give a favorable answer. Mini-story of Kopin is seen whenever you finish a chapter about his life as the Kopin of Vanessa, the Witch of Immolation.

The game is accepted with mixed feelings, but is a good initial game n00b player when it comes to playing a tactical-RPG. The enemies are easier to kill and some powers of the characters an give damage of 500 HP or instant kill. Synergy ablities are hard to perform due the requirements, but the effects are devastating.

With the new album of Ayumi Hamasakim, comes the new PV of Talkin' to Myself. Compared to the previous PV she has, it's not good, in my opinion. It's more of a war inspired video with the background of rock.

I do like her new hairstyle though. She again cut it, but it fit her perfectly. You can judge it for yourself:

New releases and new adventure. I've just downloaded a couple more DS ROMs with RPG theme: Heroes of Mana, which was made by SquarEnix and Luminous Arc, made by ATLUS.

According to ratings they are pretty good and since I'm an RPG fan, I decided to try them. Will probably post a more detailed review after playing it.

Rune Factory: A Fantasy Harvest Moon

One of my most beloved games is Harvest Moon. And it was funny that I was playing Harvest Moon DS the other night when a new kind of Harvest Moon was released in the R4 sites.

Rune Factory: A Fantasy Harvest Moon is another way of occupying my time with farming and courting girls, but with a twist.

Other than different characters, the animals are called monsters and you have to tame them in order for you to have helpers and livestock. It's a new feel to a game with so many franchise.

Compared with the Harvest Moon DS, the controls are more user friendly, and gameplay is more manageable. Even the time is more realistic than the original Harvest Moon games -- or maybe it's because that it slowed down a bit.

Overall, there are several pros and cons of the game and I'll be writing an in depth review of this game once I've finished playing this. And oh boy, this will be a long one, I can tell.

Speaking of playing, I've only started playing this last night and I stopped because I need to sleep since I have work the next day. I stopped at 2 am in the morning. O.o'

Kaie Birthday Party

Where do I start? I attended Kaie's birthday last July and I took several shots and videos with my trusty cellphone. Unfortunately, I forgotten about them until I need to upload some pictures in my phone.

It's her 7th birthday and I was late in getting to the party. I got a little lost to boot, that I've got to call Tanya to ask for directions. I was so absent-minded that day.

Fortunately for me, my own sense of direction kicked in and I found the place, with Mechiavillian Mecha Monster waiting for me and trying to call me.

The actual party was fun. Half of the time, I was eating the food and laughing at what's happening. Angel Metatron and his brother, Ryan, was there. But, I was not successful in goading him into playing DS with me. Ehe.

Speaking of fun, here are the other pictures that I took and a video of a loli-god playing with ~~lolis~~ kids.

Quentin Tarantino comes to Town

Some of you might have known that the famous Quentin Tarantino, who created Kill Bill trilogy, was here in the Philippines a few weeks ago. I was with the other CosPH admins who were invited to join in the screening of

Cinemanila movies.

Honestly, I'm neither a fan of Mr. QT, nor a fan of his movie, Kill Bill. I don't know, maybe I have something against caucasian people trying to be asian, or it strikes me as something odd. But I digress.

Since my BF likes him, I can be the neutral. But, since he liked Mr. QT, I took videos of him so that not only he would be happy, but my officemates as well.

Fixing my Bathroom and other randomness

So I was there in Japan Home Center, where everything is 88 Php. I bought this trays that will help me tidy up my bathroom sink (like my mother always nag me in fixing the things in my sink)

So I bough 3 trays in hopes to clean the clutter in my bathroom. And it did:

On Vox: Yu gi Oh in WoW tournament

Top decking mode is not really my style, but yesterday, Moonshadow heard my calls whilst playing in the battlegrounds. And here I thought I was not capable of top deck win.

Here's the situation, in the red corner, wearing Horde's flag is non other than the orc warrior himself, Gorebelly! With 30 life, he can eliminate me with his sword weilding abilities -- as like what Carlo did before the game. If you don't know, Carlo is the player of the deck and I, Moonshdow must face him for the tournament.

We did a playtest before the tournament, and after 2 rounds, my druid was a total defeat. Maybe because I was not praying enough. She was devastated. Poor Moonshadow.

But no matter, in a matter of minutes, we will fight him again and we will redeem ourselves.

Ehem.

So now, the fight began. So far so good, I can still stand her blows as his weapon connected with Moonshadow's body time and time again. Just as I think I will be beaten to a pulp, Parvink showed up, as well as my Cyclones with my 1 or 2 drop allies that will help me try and conquer Gorebelly's massive health.

So here I was, down to 2 life, with one card in hand, a Natural Selection that would either eliminate an ally for 3 damage or heal me for 3 life. Honestly, I am just waiting for a Mortal Strike with Heroic Strike to finish me off, but I think luck is on my side. My supporting allies are as follows:

Mezzik, 1 ATK, 1 health, who can throw an ally to a hero or another ally. the ATK of the destroyed ally will be the damage that would be dealt.
Parvink, a 2 ATK and 2 health and very cute protector
Jealene, an untargettable of spells with 3 ATK
Latro, an elusive (meaning can't be attacked) also with 3 ATK
Apprentice Merry, another untargettable with 2 ATK
the remaining 2 Yeti Tokens with 1 ATK each, the other one died killing another ally

As I waited, Gorebelly strike Parvink, dealing 3 damage to my protector and 2 damage to himself. So long Parvink, you've been a great help. *sniff* I thought it was over, but Rak Sky came into play, giving Gorebelly a chance to strike again.

Uh-oh.

Natural Selection came to the resuce. While his weapon strike me for 3 damage, I healed 3 first before getting the 3

damage. So I'm back to 25 damage, 2 more life to go. Another Rak Sky will kill me off. But like I said before, I think luck is on my side, as Carlo just said he was done.

So I prayed to Moonshadow, either give me a Healing Touch to heal me for 10 or something big, something massivethat would help me eliminate the Orc. Lo and behold, it worked.

May I present to you: Tracker Gallen. Like what the card says, he has +1 ATK for EACH ally in my party, including him of course. So I counted, he has 8 ATK as that moment. I knew at that moment, I have to kill Gorebelly or else I would be killed next turn.

Mezzik threw Tracker for 8 damage, straight to Gorebelly's face. And as I attacked every ally in my party, it sums up to an overkill event. Killing Gorebelly for about 35 damage.

Win by top decking. *grins*

After a long sleep, another project was resurrected from the dead and the one whose coordinating it with us is from NY. So I have to stay up late in the office just to go to the phone meeting. It's funny really, I've waited over a hour for this meeting and just have about 5 mins of talk about the test scripts I created.

The one I was surprised about is that Zhanna (the coordinator) was very pleased of what I've done and shouted that I did a good job. Now, it's sleeping for a while and will prolly be resurrected once the developer of the Core will fix the defects I've found.

Honestly, I'm not a fan of Harry Potter. Will all the Harry Potter craze that's been happening in the office, I just shut my trap about it.

I have never read a book of HP, although my sister tried lending me Book 1, I just shook my head and gave it back.

I don't know why I don't like Harry Potter. I do like reading the yaoi fanfics, but that's about it. Maybe I just don't like fantasy books in general. *shrugs* I do like romance novels. XD

My mother and niece

All I can say is it's my mother. My mother is she she's old and she is still beautiful even if she's going to be in her 60s this December. Even my officemates can't believe that she's going to be 60 this year.

I guess I can brag about my mother once in a while and I can definitely say that the Spanish blood in out mothers side did really kicked in for her.

She's very meticulous with her appearance and skin; and now it finally paid off.

I wish I can be like her, but putting on creams and the like are not my thing.

At the moment, I'm addicted to two games and I blame it all to Kila and of course because I'm a game freak, so I decided to try it.

Pokemon Diamond
Honestly, this is the first time I played a Pokemon game and I don't know how this really works. I'm not a Pokemon fan to begin with but with a little nudge of Kila
I started to play the game.

I'm proud to say that I'm still playing without walkthrough and I like it like that. And without walkthrough I managed to fill up my pokedex with more than 80 pokemons and collected my 4th badge.

Now I'm stuck. Oh well, I guess I'll just explore around the town to find the other things I need to find. And I think I should level up some of my pokemons. I'm such a lazy gamer -- not wanting to level them up. XD

Phoenix Wright: Justice for All
Yes, another game I am currently addicted to. It started with a curiosity and I think the cat was killed. *lol* Ehem. Actually I started playing the game when Kila mentioned that if there will be a Phoenix Wright cosplay, I would be perfect as Mia. So, armed with my R4, I downloaded the ROM and started playing.

I was hooked, line and sinker. I loved the game that sometimes my head hurts while trying to figure out how did the crime took place. Investigating a crime scene is so cool, makes me feel that I'm part of the CSI, which obviously, I'm not. :P

So after the the first part, I played the 2nd and I'm now as well stuck. My mind is taking a rest and then I'll continue where I left off.

Commission update:

Finally finished Presea's accessories -- sorry dearie is it's not accurate X.x and not shiny enough. Anyways, I finally find a perfect gem for the necklace and I found it in a accessories shop in Glorietta. Carolina's does not sell big gems anymore so I was in panic mode.

I grabbed the biggest blue gem in Carolina's and about to just recreate a big gem out of it. Fortunately, I walk around Glorietta and found a pair of earrings that have a big gem as the center of it. I didn't think twice in buying it and destroying the earring. The other pair is with me, just in case I need another gem. As for the velcro, I bought it in Carolina's.

I hope Presea's happy with what I can do. X.x

In other news, I finally bough an Ipod, with 30 gb space for all of my 10gb and more

songs in my pc and the videos I plan to download.

Actually, I asked my mother to buy it as installment on her card and she agreed, provided of course that I pay on time. I think I spent 2 months on deliberating if I'm going to buy it or not considering the cost.

Now, I only have less than half the capacity. Me and my downloading hands :P

I will only buy one last gadget and I would stop for a moment. That's because I will be sort off sponsoring 2 of my cousins schooling.

My mother and I had talked about it before when my aunt called asking if we can lend her money so that my cousin can study in college. It's just a 2 year course and her tuition fee is I think 15k a semester. My mother said that she can't get that much money, so I offered my money. We will share the burden and help my cousin.

We do understand my aunt's predicament and her daughters are her hope to remove them from poverty. I guess that's the only thing I can offer for them and hope for the best.

But of course, if my cousin decides not to take college seriously, I will personally scold her for it. :P

On Vox: a gem and a velcro away

Presea's Commission Update:

the buckle is now finished! Bwahaha. Actually I finished it the other day but I was so busy yesterday so I opted to post it now. Besides, there are several pics that I'm going to show as well.

As you can see, it's not that accurate (sorry Presea) mainly because we can't find a similar buckle. The only buckle that we saw was a gold ring. For that, I'm not sure how I will make it to the buckle, so I opted for this.

Made using a mixture of ornaments from Carolina's in Megamall, then placed pearls. Coated the make shift buckle with Pylox gold spray paint and let it dry. Then coated it with another layer of glittery nail polish -- to make it glitter. Ohhh shiny....

The title tells it all. I only need a piece of velcro and the blue gem to finish the other

jewelries. Gah. Since one of the necklace who needs a velcro is might as well done I've posted it here.

I've used rubber sheet for the necklace and of course my left over pearls from my previous costume. Then same as the buckle, coated it with Pylox gold spray paint and the nail polish. Now the only thing that is remaining is the velcro to attach it to the neck. Gah.

The Broken Comb

And I don't think I know my own strength and while I was combing my hair, I broke y comb into 2 parts. *Icries*

I borrowed my niece's comb and finished combing my hair. I grabbed the trusty old Greco and mended the broken parts together.

I let it dry and I hope when I used it again, It will be fine.

In other news, gah, the FC party is nearing. @.@ So many things are happening and most of the time I'm in need of time. x.x

Presea's Commission Update:

I am almost done with the necklace. The pendant is heavy enough not to be blown by the wind, which I've been aiming from the start. It only needs the blue gem stone and a little paint and it would be done. If time (and my OC self) permits it, I might be adding a few more gem stones for accent. Usually I'm not content with just that...

Anyways, I'll start the other necklace tonight, and hopefully I'm finished by tomorrow. I think I have several Velcro strips in our sewing box, or somewhere... Hmmm... Anyways, I might be giving it a few gem stones as well -- unless Presea doesn't want to :P

As for the belt buckle, as you can see, it's somewhat done and painted with gold with spray paint. I had a hard time trying to create the middle parts -- my inspiration eluded me. BUT... I finally figured out a way, using some of my left over string of pearls from my previous costume.

Afterwhich, I sprayed gold spray paint to it and let it dry. Actually, the spray paint coating is just the primary paint. I'm going to paint it a second layer tonight since I'm not satisfied with the spray paint. Then I'm going to add several gemstones (which was a left over from my previous costume) and I'll be done.

Honestly, I didn't know if I can do it, but I decided that I will do it (since Presea is my friend and I'm glad I could help in someway. Besides, I miss cosplay and creating jewelries for my costumes.

After this, I will try and hopefully succeed in creating the other parts for my Toycon cosplay. :P I'll post pics if I start on a part.

In other news, I am so happy that my free phone arrived from SMART. It's the Nokia 6070 in which I plan to sell for Php 6,000. It's still negotiable so feel free to comment if you want to buy it.

Speaking of the free phone, I was tearful last night because I thought I would not get it. Why? Well last night, I went to Galleria since the manager called me that the phone is already there and I can pick it up anytime. I decided to get it last night and then afterwhich, I went to Neutral Grounds to play some WoW.

Then when it was closing time, I rushed outside, and noticed that I was the last one to get out of the store. Yes, I FORGOT the cellphone inside the shop! I only remembered when I was going home. I was tearful and my spirits were down last night.

Every 15 minutes, I looked at the clock and see that it was well pass midnight. I can't sleep because I plan to go to Galleria at 10 am and get it. To pass time, I tried to finish the commissioned jewelries but sleep got me.

I woke up at 8 am in the blistering heat of the sun (It's summer gah ~ I'm melting) and decided to might as well take a bath and head out.

When I got to the store, it only had one customer and is flipping the binder. The saleslady smiled at me (since I knew her) and I asked if there was a paper bag left last night. She said she doesn't know and I looked at the back room where we play cards and I saw it!

The reason I didn't noticed it, because the paper bag is white, and it is under the white monoblock chair. @.@

It's time to upload several pictures from my trusty old camera phone. Let's start from the oldest...

1. Me, Mechiavillian Mecha Monster, battlechaser, Kila and Pong went to Tiendesitas to eat in Teriyaki Boy in Fun Ranch -- it was their dry run and we were invited to eat there. I still love their food. I arrived late (boo) because I rushed from work. Mechiavillian Mecha Monster requested to go there even if I didn't got to the restaurant in time. So I rushed -- hailing a cab and we sped through Julia Vargas street to Tiendesitas.

Honestly, it was the first time I'm going there. It might be close at home but I don't have a habit of shopping -- only just when I need something. And of course it's no fun if you're going there alone. AND my mother warned me that things there are expensive. *lol* So I follow my mother's advise.

Anyways, after dinner, we went to the pet shops and decided to window whop for pets. I think Kila wanted another dog. I look for cats -- did I mention I love cats? XD

Then after an hour of wandering around, I got tired. Stress + rush + food = tired and sleepy.

In the end, Mechiavillian Mecha Monster noticed it so he carried me piggy back style until we reached the car. It was funny though, as we were walking towards the car, his boss and several officemates were walking in the opposite direction. I think he was embarrassed as they commented that we were like a scene from a koreanovela. I don't know which though.

*lol*

Unknown to us, Kila decided film our escapade. But I had a barrel of laughs when battlechaser decided to pose for us when we reached the car. I think it was his impersonation of being a dog. I think he did a splendid job, don't you agree? XD

When we reached the car, we talked abotu WoW TCG and the upcoming Dark Portal release. I was so excited about it that I printed the sneak previews of cards to be released.

2. While we were playing WoW TCG, Kila asked Pong if he knows who is on the cover of the Cosplay Magazine -- and it was Kila really. Pong was speechless and we were all laughing since Pong can not guess who it was -- although he says that picture was familiar to him. Chris, another WoW and Magic TCG player commented that he knows the person and Pong

knows her as well. Our conversation went like this:

Kila: Oo nga kilala mo yan dapat! (Yes, you should know her!)
Chris: Mas nauna mo pang nakilala yan kesa sa akin eh. (You knew her first)
Me: Sige clue: naglalaro nang WoW, cosplayer (duh), kilala naming lahat, at laging nasa Neutral Grounds... (Ok, here are clues: She playes WoW, is a cosplayer (duh), we all know her and she's always in Neutral Grounds...)
Pong: Uhhh. Uhmmm.... *scratches head*

Pong: *widens eyes then looks at Paul*
Me, Kila and battlechaser: WTF?
Chris: *lol*
battlechaser: *smacks Pong with the magazine*

After about 1 hour of guessing game, he finally knew who the person is. Everything was hilarious especially the part that he thought it was battlechaser. And here I thought I was the one who looked like him not his GF. *lol*

3. Me and Mechiavillian Mecha Monster went to Eastwood City to just hang out since

Paraluman's Star

we dont' want to go home yet. I think he wanted to eat dinner and Eastwood is near our village. We passed by the walk of fame and we remembered that we wanted to see if Paraluman had a star there.

Honestly, I don't know what the star symbolizes, but I think it means that they are the ones who visited Eastwood City before. I don't personally know who Paraluman is, but Mechiavillian Mecha Monster knows. And we sorta promised his friend that we will took a picture of it when we saw it.

Afterwhich we walked around some more and spend 2 hours talking with each other and went home.

4. Ozine Fest 2007 rolled in, unfortunately, our cosplay didn't pushed through and I was there to play WoW TCG since it was the pre-release of the Dark Portal (and I was the 1st one who signed in -- Yehbah~!).

Anyways, after the draft game, I played with other WoW players, met someone to trade cards with and try to remove Adz's shirt.

He was cosplaying someone in Bleach (I'm sorry I don't remember the name and I don't watch Bleach anymore x.x) and Mau helped me getting the job done. *maniacally laughs*

Other than that, I man the CPH booth and tried to sell as many magazine as I can. I think I did fairly OK for my few minutes stay.

5. This is my last pictures and it contains cosplay props. Presea commissioned me to do some of her props for a cosplay and I agreed. It contains 2 necklace and a belt buckle.

The necklace is almost done, it only needs a few things I decided to put and the blue gemstone and some paint and it would be finished. The buckle is a little difficult since I would be trying to copy it. I think I can say that I'm 50 % done with everything.

6. Like I said, it was the last pictures. The next one is a video taken yesterday in Kila's house. Speaking of yesterday, I would like to say:

Now that's said and done. I'll tell you what happened yesterday. Yesterday, we celebrated Kila's birthday in their house in Alabang. it was a swimming party and since it was Summer, it was a great time to use the pool (but usually if we have parties there, we swim :P) Anyways, we had a great time, but we went home a little late than we were supposed to.

The video is about us, singing the happy birthday song to Kila and failing. *laughs* It was hilarious. Enjoy... :P
